“Do not destroy or desolate my world, for if you do, there shall be no one else to repair it.” Midrash Kohelet Rabbah, 1 on Ecclesiastes 7:13)
The Jewish Environmental Initiative (JEI) aims to educate members of the St. Louis Jewish community about the connection between Judaism and the environment. JEI provides resources to congregations and organizations to assist them in “greening” their facilities and practices. The Committee also organizes events and programs focused on environmental topics, including trips to an organic farm, an annual Tu B’Shevat Seder, and activities during the week of Parshat Noah as part of its annual “Project Noah: A Week for the Environment.” The chair is Susan Mlynarczyk.
JEI also collaborates with other faith-based and community environmental organizations on initiatives and advocacy efforts. JEI is a member of the coordinating committee of the Missouri Clean Energy Coalition.
