Jewish Social Action Network (JSAN)

Social Justice

JSAN is a collaboration of representatives from St. Louis Jewish congregations’ social action committees who meets four to six times a year. JSAN provides a forum for congregations to engage in collaborative social action programming and coordinate community-wide social action projects. JSAN congregations share best practices and resources to create stronger, more sustainable programming.

The Chair of JSAN is Cheryl Adelstein.

Annual Events

Outerwear Drive for Cheshvan, Jewish Social Action Month

For recent immigrants to Saint Louis, many of whom have emigrated from a warm climate, the local winters pose a challenge. Not only are these individuals not acclimated to cold weather, but many do not have and cannot afford to buy warm outerwear for themselves or family members.

Each year during the month of Cheshvan, JSAN coordinates a Jewish community-wide collection drive for winter coats, hats, and other outerwear to benefit the International Institute of St. Louis (link).

The dates for this year’s drive are October 21st to November 18th.  Please bring new or gently used outerwear to any of these collection sites:

The Chairs are Lenny Baer (Temple Emanuel) and Laura Goldmeier (Congregation B’nai Amoona)

Jewish Community Blood Drive at Young Israel of St. Louis
The American Red Cross is constantly in need of additional donations of blood to assist patients served by St. Louis area hospitals. Every January, Young Israel of St. Louis hosts a community blood drive, with an accompanying food drive to benefit the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry, to address this need.  More details about the 2018 drive will be posted at a later date.
