Resources & Opportunities Following May 16 Tornado

JCRC extends our heartfelt prayers and support to all those impacted by the May 16 tornado, especially the loved ones of those who lost their lives. Faith communities across St. Louis are coming together to provide food, water, clothing, shelter, and other essential support to those in need.

Emergency Shelter & Immediate Needs

  • United Way - Greater St. Louis: Call 211 to speak with a live, trained service professional who can help you find resources. You can also fill out a Disaster Intake Form.
  • Red Cross - Greater St. Louis Chapter: Provides emergency shelter, meals, health services, and emotional support.

    • Emergency Shelters are open at:
      • The Recreational Center (12th and Park Recreation Center): 1410 S. Tucker Blvd, MO 63104.
      • Friendly Temple Outreach Center: 6356 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, St. Louis, MO 63133.
    • Red Cross shelters do not require ID or proof of residency.
  • The Salvation Army - Greater St. Louis Metropolitan Area: Offers food, shelter, spiritual care, and long-term recovery services.
  • Catholic Charities of St. Louis: Provides vital support during natural disasters. This includes assistance through Multi-Agency Resource Centers (MARCs) offering insurance information, legal services, food stamp replacement, and health and wellness services. Fill out their intake form  to connect with food, housing, and other assistance.
  • Saint Louis Crisis Nursery: Offers emergency care for children and support for families during crises, including natural disasters.
    • 24-hour Helpline: 314-768-3201
  • Guardian Angel Settlement Association: Provides a client-choice food pantry, rental and utility assistance, and other support services to families in need.
  • SNAP recipients who lost power during the storm and had their food spoil as a result can request replacement SNAP benefits to purchase new food. They have until June 16 to make the request.
  • Legal Services of Eastern Missouri is encouraging anyone eligible to fill out this request form through the MO Department of Social Services as soon as possible.
  • Showers: Several YMCA facilities in the region are offering free showers and outlets to charge your phones. Non-Members are welcome; government issued ID is required to access the facility.

  • Annie Malone Crisis Center: Provides 24-hour Crisis Care and Emergency Respite Placement to youth in need.
