December 1993 Eruv
An eruv is a symbolic fence (made up of designated wires or strings) surrounding a Jewish community. Its purpose is to establish the enclosed area as one single property, thus allowing traditional families to carry objects and push strollers or wheelchairs within its boundaries on the Sabbath, where in the absence of an eruv many would be forced to stay home (for example, with young children who cannot walk on their own). The JCRC passed the following resolution unanimously: “Be it resolved that the JCRC endorses and supports the creation of eruvs in the St. Louis area to enhance the observance and celebration of the Sabbath.”
