March 1990 Standard of Need
It was approved unanimously that the JCRC endorse House Bill 1046 and Senate Bill 546, which mandate that the State update, on a yearly basis, the Standard of Need, the figure upon which state AFDC benefits are calculated. A major priority of the anti-poverty community, this legislation does not mandate a benefit increase but does contain language which would ensure that benefits could rise to a level up to 20% more that current payments.
