March 1990 Hate Crimes

The JCRC voted, 14 in favor and 1 abstaining, to support amended House Bill 1221, which asks the Missouri State Highway Patrol to collect statistics on hate crimes committed throughout the state. This amended version defines a hate crime as one committed against someone based on race, religion, color, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender, or age. The council then voted 11 to 4 not to oppose Senate Bill 694, which limits the definition of a hate crime to one committed based on race, religion, color, or national origin.
